Lakes Iivantiira, Lentua, Lammasjärvi, Ontojärvi, Kellojärvi and Änätti
Kuhmo has plenty of wide, uninhabited lure fishing areas conveniently covered by a single fishing licence. Particularly attractive to lure fishers are the wild and scenic lakes of Iivantiira, Lentua, Änätti, Kellojärvi and Lammasjärvi. Although its water levels are regulated, Lake Ontojärvi is nonetheless a marvellous fishing ground. The lakes of Kuhmo are rich in fish. Vendace are found in large numbers, while the most coveted fish of prey is the trout. Pike, perch and zander make up the most common catch. The zander nowadays forms part of the Kuhmo catch. Lure fishing on Lake Ontojärvi may yield up to tens of zander in a single night. In addition to natural reproduction, the lakes and interconnecting rapids are managed by fish stocking. The joint fishing licence for the Kuhmo fishing region allows lure fishing in all the above-mentioned waters, constituting the majority of the water bodies in the area.
