Ice Fishing for Rainbow and Brown Trout
We rode a snowmobile for 20 kilometres or more along a trail meandering through woods.
Crossing an open bog and a frozen lake in between. On a river bank, reindeer had dug into the snow looking for lichen. The fish pond, our destination, was deep in the forest. On the opposite side there was an open bog stretching down to the shoreline. There was a ‘kota’ hut on the shore; we started a fire in the hut, brewed coffee, roasted some sausages. We discovered that the best spots for ice fishing were along the shore facing the hut. After returning to our cottage at Ukkohalla, we fried our catch and warmed ourselves up in the sauna.
