Several Trout and a Rainbow on the River Kutujoki
In early July, Joonas and I set out on a trip from Oulu, planning to do some evening fishing on the River Kutujoki I had visited less than a week previously. This time our plan was to explore the stretches of the river we weren’t yet familiar with. The evening went well. Joonas, still in the early stages of his fly fishing career, and using a streamer with wings tied of light fox fur, hooked a rainbow trout almost immediately. A bit later, using beadhead nymphs, I managed to catch several brown trout ─ all below the statutory minimum size ─ on both sides of the old bridge crossing the river. We saw plenty of hatches while the sun was setting, and the water level was just about right.
