On the River Kalliojoki
A denizen of the river, feeding at the edge of the current, made its presence known with an audible, boiling rise. I approached the site of the rise from downstream and cast, laying my fly where I thought the monster might be hiding. The fish accepted my fly, unaware that the floating morsel was no insect struggling in the surface film. A brief but intensive fight ensued, ending with a successful scoop of my landing net. Wow! The net held a beautiful, half-metre-long fish sporting a huge dorsal fin. I spent a few moments admiring it, before returning this magnificent specimen to its own world.
