On the River Ontojoki Fishing Grounds
One day in August, we decided we’d like to eat ‘lohikukko’, that’s trout or rainbow baked in a dough crust. So, we took a risk and bought ready-made dough in Sotkamo. To fish, we headed for a spot around one kilometre downstream from the Katerma hydroelectric power station.
Our confidence lure had given us fish before, and didn’t let us down that day either. The first fish bit once we had managed to strip out enough line. The second made a turn and took the lure at the same spot. We now had the ingredients for a ‘lohikukko’, so we pointed the bow towards home. By evening the ‘lohikukko’ was ready, and tasted delicious in butter and washed down with cold milk.
